The Great Master Li Ruidong

Li Rui Dong

The Traditional Li Branch Taichi (Li's Taijiquan) was formed by Great Master Li Ruidong, who was born in 1851 during the Qing Dynasty Xianfeng period. It was based on inheriting the Taoist Northern Branch Taiji with a fusion of the Taoist Southern Branch of Taiji and also included other forms such as Yue's Twelve Shapes, Dong's Bagua Palm, etc. It is the preservation of the ancient methods and its style characteristics which are not normally to be found in today’s Taijiquan. Due to historical reasons, it had been hidden in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and not spread widely (this is commonly the case for many Chinese ancient martial art skills). This explains why, outside the region, it is not so well known.

Great Master Li Ruidong inherited extremely rich various martial arts techniques, equipment, internal skills, and auxiliary skills from major martial arts branches. He learned and transformed the essence of the internal and external martial arts he had learned throughout his life, melted the essence of various martial arts he had learned into one, integrated them, and finally derived and created "Li's Tai Chi".

"Li's Tai Chi" was once only spread among the royal family and nobles, and was not publicly taught in society. Famous people who had practiced it included Mei Lanfang, Cheng Yanqiu and other drama masters and some politicians. In his later years, Master Li Ruidong founded the "Chinese Warriors Association" in Tianjin and served as its president, and then began to promote and popularize "Li's Tai Chi".

About Me

I am a 12th. generation inheritor of Chen style Taijiquan Small Frame and a 13th. generation inheritor of Chen style Taijiquan Large Frame .

I am currently a sixth level Tai Chi practitioner, as certified by Hunan Province Wushu Association in 2017. I am also a certified Tai Chi teacher.

After learning and practicing Chen style Tai Chi for many years, I've been attracted to Taoist Taichi in recent years and, by sheer luck, I had the chance to examine more deeply the ancient training system which for centuries was kept in the Lee Family and passed down by my Taichi master, Xue Wen Yu. I am fascinated by the efficient way it cultivates Qi(energy), which speeds up the journey of Tai Chi. The health benefits seems almost magical - many people with serious illnesses have significantly improved by practicing Wuji standing meditation, Qi Circulating Techniques of Tai Chi. Following my Taichi Master, Xue Wen Yu, who wishes to spread these ancient arts and benefits to as many people as possible, together with my personal desire to help people, I would like to share what I have learned with any others who may wish to delve deeper into these ancient arts.
